We want to hear from you, our readers! This week, we’re celebrating the artists & albums that emerged during the Britpop era, and we want to know what YOUR favorite albums are from this prolific time period in UK music, roughly defined as the five-year period commencing in 1993 and concluding in 1997.
Note that the Britpop classification has always been open to various interpretations and its fair share of criticism, some of it well-deserved. So for the purposes of this poll, we are more concerned with the time period (i.e., the era) during which the Britpop musical and cultural phenomenon rose to prominence rather than whether the artists and albums included here can accurately be considered “Britpop.” Hence why you will find albums by bands like The Charlatans, Radiohead and The Verve alongside Blur, Oasis, Pulp and Suede, among others.
Simply select UP TO FIVE of your favorite Britpop era albums below and click “submit.” Your submission is anonymous and no personal information is required to vote. The submission deadline is Sunday, June 23rd at 10:00pm ET, and we will publish the results soon thereafter, so check back via our Facebook and Twitter pages to discover the consensus #1 selected by your fellow readers!
