Eighteen years. Nearly eighteen years have passed since hip-hop legends A Tribe Called Quest released what most fans have always presumed to be their final studio album, 1998’s The Love Movement.
But thanks to record industry guru and Epic Records Chairman/CEO L.A. Reid, and just one week before their Native Tongues brethren De La Soul are set to deliver their new album and the Anonymous Nobody…, rumors are now swirling that a new Tribe LP is forthcoming.
In a recent podcast conversation with Rap Radar’s Elliott Wilson and Brian "B.Dot" Miller, Reid revealed Epic’s plans to release the album. ““[It is] a brand new album that they recorded before Phife [Dawg] passed away,” Reid explained. “I’m really happy about it man, it’s really something special. It’s one of the things I’m most excited about over everything we’re working on.” Listen to the podcast below, with Reid’s revelation at the 14:50 mark.
