ALBUM NEWS: Impressive Crop of Artists Unite for Elmore James Tribute Album

Next month marks 100 years since blues legend Elmore James was born, and to commemorate the milestone, Sylvan Songs Records is slated to release a star-studded tribute album on January 26th. Entitled Strange Angels: In Flight with Elmore James, the 13-track collection finds Rodney Crowell, Tom Jones, Keb Mo,’ Bettye LaVette, Shelby Lynne & Allison Moorer and a handful of their fellow artists reinterpreting the Mississippi-born King of the Slide Guitar’s most notable compositions.

More than fifty years have passed since the iconic bluesman passed away in 1963 at the all-too-young age of 45, but his musical influence has continued to loom large during this time, inspiring the work of such rock ‘n’ roll luminaries as Gregg Allman, Jimi Hendrix, Keith Richards, Robbie Robertson, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, among many others

All of the profits from sales of Strange Angels will be donated to two great organizations: MusiCares, The Recording Academy's charity that provides a safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need, and Edible Schoolyard NYC, which partners with public schools to transform the hearts, minds, and eating habits of young New Yorkers through garden and kitchen classes integrated into the school day.
