An acclaimed artist, dynamic lyricist, and outspoken political/social activist, Talib Kweli has curated quite an impressive solo discography over the past two decades. But the versatile emcee is also no stranger to bestowing his many skills to top-notch collaborations with his hip-hop peers, as best evidenced by his previous work with Yasiin Bey a.k.a. Mos Def (as Black Star), Hi-Tek (as Reflection Eternal), Madlib, and 9th Wonder, among several others.
His latest project finds him joining forces once again with Styles P, a kindred hip-hop spirit who boasts his own stellar repertoire of recordings, both on his own and as a founding member of The LOX. The duo have partnered on a handful of joints in the past, but now they’re prepping their first proper suite of songs together in the form of the forthcoming (and appropriately titled) The Seven EP, due in stores April 14th.
The seven-track mini-album features guest spots by Common, Rapsody, and the other two-thirds of The LOX, Jadakiss and Sheek Louch, among a few others. And to build even more anticipation for the effort, the pair have unveiled the video for lead single “Last Ones,” featuring crisp black & white imagery orchestrated by director Suj Jus.
