In the closing moments of his farewell speech last week, President Barack Obama confided that, “My fellow Americans, it has been the honor of my life to serve you. I won’t stop; in fact, I will be right there with you, as a citizen, for all my days that remain.” And while there’s consolation to be found in knowing that both President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will continue to faithfully serve the United States of America for years to come, albeit in new capacities, many of us are already feeling the pangs of the huge void they will leave upon departing the White House later this week.
Amidst all of the uncertainty that surrounds the incoming administration—and leaving our partisan political dispositions aside for a moment, if we can—what is certain is that we owe The Obamas a serious debt of gratitude for their eight years of fidelity and service to our country. And it is within this spirit, and with a not-so-subtle nod to the title of A Tribe Called Quest’s recently released album, that we have created a special tribute playlist in honor of the charismatic First Couple.
We hope you enjoy the mix below, comprised of 80 tracks from a wide range of artists including Earth, Wind & Fire, David Bowie, Aretha Franklin, Common, U2, Public Enemy, and Miles Davis, among many others. And please join us in thanking The Obamas for their inspired leadership and unwavering grace over the past eight years.
