With the 15-year anniversary of The Strokes’ watershed 2001 debut album Is This It right around the corner, the band that spawned the garage rock revival of the early 2000s has just unveiled their first new music in more than three years. Frontman Julian Casablancas debuted the irresistibly melodic single “OBLIVIUS” earlier today during his new Sirius XMU radio show “Culture Void.”
The track is lifted from the group’s forthcoming EP entitled Future Present Past, which arrives courtesy of Cult Records next week on June 3rd and includes three new songs (“OBLIVIUS,” “Drag Queen,” and “Threat of Joy”) and drummer Fabrizio Moretti’s remix of “OBLIVIUS.” No concrete details of a full-length album have surfaced just yet, but we suspect the release of the proper follow-up to 2013’s Comedown Machine can’t be too far away now.
