Behold. A prolific discography in the making. It’s rather astonishing to witness firsthand an artist who is cultivating a recorded repertoire that is destined to be revered as one of the greatest of the 21st century. But this is precisely what Robert Glasper is doing, as we speak.
Just months removed from helming the Miles Ahead score and delivering the accompanying Everything’s Beautiful collection of reimagined Miles Davis compositions, Glasper has reconvened his “experimental” band of brothers for their third long player. The follow-up to the Robert Glasper Experiment’s acclaimed two volumes of Black Radio which featured an impressive roll call of guest contributors including Jill Scott, Mos Def, Lupe Fiasco, Lalah Hathaway, KING, and Erykah Badu, along a handful of other notable artists, ArtScience shines the spotlight squarely on the gifted quartet this time ‘round.
The imaginatively conceived, melodically fuzzy/funky “Find You” is the lead single from the project due via Blue Note Records September 16th. Clocking in at just shy of seven minutes, the track is bolstered by lead vocals courtesy of bassist Derrick Hodge, a storming guitar solo by Michael Severson, and a poignant “spoken word” courtesy of Glasper’s then 5-year old son Riley, who eloquently proclaims that “We stand up for freedom. And if the polices stand up for freedom, I’m going to be proud. Very proud.”
