Though many of us here in the States are likely most familiar with Lisa Hannigan from her previous collaborations with Damien Rice, among others, the gifted Irish singer-songwriter has cultivated an acclaimed solo career for nearly ten years. Her wonderful, Mercury Prize-nominated debut solo album Sea Sew (2008) helped to established her own musical identity, and was followed by the equally rewarding Passenger (2011).
On August 19th, Hannigan is set to release her third studio album entitled At Swim, produced by The National co-founder Aaron Dessner. Reminiscent of the subdued fare of Low and Yo La Tengo, with a touch of classic country charm evocative of the iconic Patsy Cline, plaintive lead single “Prayer for the Dying” is nothing short of sublime, with Hannigan’s soothing vocals elevated to the forefront.
