Nearly four years since they released the ambitious album trilogy comprised of the sequentially titled ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré!, Green Day have announced that their new album, entitled Revolution Radio, will arrive October 7th. Their twelfth studio album, the release of Revolution Radio also marks thirty years since the formation of the pioneering Bay Area pop-punk band in 1986.
Earlier today, the group unveiled the LP’s lead single “Bang Bang,” a sobering commentary on America’s obsession with firearms, articulated through the perspective of a mass shooter. “It's about the culture of mass shooting that happens in America mixed with narcissistic social media,” frontman Billie Joe Armstrong recently explained to Rolling Stone. “There's this sort of rage happening, but it's also now being filmed and we all have ourselves under surveillance. To me, that is so twisted.”
If their previous track record (namely 2004’s American Idiot and 2009’s 21st Century Breakdown) offers any harbingers of things to come this fall, Revolution Radio is destined to provide at least a few anthemic rallying cries, as we delve into the deep (and disturbing) of this unprecedented presidential election.
Stream “Bang Bang” below, and keep your eyes peeled for Revolution Radio this October.
