Here at Albumism, we’re well known for celebrating the classic albums and artists of the past. And while we seldom miss a chance to indulge our readers’ collective nostalgia, we also find just as much pleasure in discovering and spreading the good word about the new music that moves us.
Our latest revelation arrives in the form of Black Dylan, the Danish soul duo comprised of the multi-platinum singer-songwriter Wafande and the accomplished producer Nuplex. Admittedly not as well known (yet) stateside, the group has been tickling plenty of ears overseas since unveiling their critically acclaimed debut long player Hey Stranger last year.
The inspired album contains standout tracks in abundance, and one of the finest moments is unquestionably the latest single “Get Up Child.” Debuting exclusively on Albumism.com today, the video for the uplifting, retro-soul indebted track contains some of the most inventive and refreshing imagery we’ve seen in quite awhile. In the beautifully executed black & white clip, turntables, records, instruments, and even Wafande and Nuplex themselves can be seen floating through the air before the scene morphs into an impromptu dance party with their friends. The visuals are a perfect complement to Wafande’s warm, reassuring vocals set atop the headnod-inducing groove replete with piano and horn flourishes throughout.
"This song is meant as a motivational boost to anyone listening,” Wafande explains in an official statement. “I wrote it, thinking of the times I needed a wakeup call to continue when times got hard, so the motivation is just as much for us as for everyone else. It’s important that you never give up and always keep pushing through.”
